The May 2022 bond proposal will invest in the highest priority projects and spotlight three key areas:

    Upgrade safety and security measures in our school buildings.

    • Creation of secure double-door entrances to the schools that do not have them
    • Upgrade camera systems
    • Replace aging school buses, as needed, to keep our fleet modern and safe

    Provide safe, healthy learning environments.

    • Improve air quality
    • Install cooling, replace boilers as needed
    • Replace outdated portable classrooms with permanent classrooms
    • Replace older infrastructure including roofing, paving, and playground equipment
    • Install energy-efficient LED lighting and solar panels
    • Improve and replace fine arts equipment & athletic facilities

    Replace, upgrade and enhance district technology.

    • Maintain and increase student access to Chromebooks both in and out of school
    • Upgrade classroom and large space audiovisual systems in schools to support increased student engagement
    • Refresh building computer labs and/or media centers to meet new innovative usage demands
    • Replace and upgrade technology infrastructure to support additional staff and student devices
    • Update phones and printers to more efficient and modern systems
  • Millage rate will be maintained

  • On May 3, 2022, the Kalamazoo community will have the opportunity to vote on a bond proposal. If voters approve this bond proposal, there is expected to be NO increase in the tax rate.

    This bond would provide $197.1 million to fund capital improvements in our 24 schools. The Kalamazoo Public Schools May 2022 bond proposal was developed to invest in our community's future. The bond funds will enable KPS to invest in safety and security; invest in buildings, classrooms, and mechanical upgrades; and invest in technology.

    Election day: May 3, 2022

    Polls are open: Tuesday, May 3, 2022 from, 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Registered voters may cast a ballot at the polling location established by their city/township.

    Absentee voting: Contact your precinct; ballots will be available by March 19, 2022.
